On Tuesday our club members took part in a technical challenge that tested their skills and patience. Each group was asked to construct a tower using only marshmallow and spaghetti. The group with the tallest (stable) tower would be crowned the winner!!
Team work and cooperation was needed throughout the task.
The leaning tower of Yoker.
Each group had their own ideas on how to tackle the challenge.
This was a bonkers winning approach to the task. Congratulations to the winning team!
Here are the DRC Scotstoun squad before Friday's game against Summerstoun A. The game against Summerstoun was a close affair that unfortunately ended in defeat for our lads. Lots of positives from Friday though, we created numerous chances but just need to be a bit more clinical up front. Onwards and upwards.
This was the first chance for the team to try out their new kits which are sponsored by our friends at 'De'ils on Wheels'.
We will be building the raised beds in the allotments at Sandholm Place between 1-4pm. Our members are all welcome, so come along and get stuck in! Remember to wear old clothes and boots or wellies in case its a bit muddy. Once the beds are built we will decide on the veggies we will be planting in the next week or so to get a crop before Easter.
We are starting a new LGBTQ+ group which will meet in 'Heart of Scotstoun Community Centre' on Tuesday 27th October from 7pm - 9pm. The group will discuss issues affecting LGBTQ+ young people and, in the future, will network with other groups to identify common issues which can be addressed through shared campaigning. Anyone between the ages of 13-18, and identifies as LBGTQ+ is more than welcome. Please feel free to contact us or speak to a member of the DRC staff for more details
Here is a short video from our adventure @ 'Airspace'. This trip was a reward for the hard work and dedication shown by members of our Scotstoun club.
This summer is action packed at the 'DRC Youth Project'. Keep up to date with all that is happening at our clubs by checking our Facebook and blog on a regular basis.
All hands are on deck with just over a week to go until our talented performance group's summer show. Rehearsals are well underway, songs are being choreographed, backgrounds are being painted and tickets are being printed (as we speak!). This show is going to be an absolute cracker.
Sometimes you've just got to make the most of the little good weather we get in Bonnie Scotland. Last Friday we set up the BBQ and started tucking in to some good grub. A great way to get the weekend started!
Our gardening group are busy preparing plants and flower-beds in the back area at 'Yoker Resource Centre'. Their next challenge is to tackle the youth project's plot at the local allotment.
Two 1,000 piece jigsaws completed in the space of 2 weeks in the Scostoun club. Massive respect to everyone involved!! (Special mention to Lisa for never giving up.)
Patience and dedication were needed to complete each puzzle!
Plans are underway for this Summer's show. The group have been meeting regularly, devising a plot and working on scenes for the new production. After the success of 'Consequences' and 'Oor Fairytale' the sky is the limit for our talented set of actors!
Over the past few weeks the group have taken part in the 'DRC Performance Training Camp' taster sessions. Each session has provided young people from Scotstoun and Yoker with an opportunity to get involved in some exciting new activities...
Here are our dedicated crew of young people from Yoker and Scotstoun working and learning together during Scottish Fire and Rescue's 'Fire Reach' programme.
Fire Reach is a 5 week programme which uses the basic elements of fire and rescue training to build a young person's team participation, motivation and practical skills.
